AUGUST   2012

Happy September!   Things are happening.    The Wednesday evening Pavilion Gatherings have ended and the 10:30 Sunday morning worship returns to the Sanctuary – watch us have unseasonably hot weather now!    We’re planning two semesters of ‘Wednesday After-School Program’ starting September 10 (our first three registrations just arrived).   The semesters will run from now to before Christmas and from January to Easter.   In addition to homework and snack time, craft and activity, we intend to present the Bible using The Story Bible curriculum.    Although our Methodist Men’s fellowship has continued meeting  (and eating!) all summer, our Methodist Women resume their monthly gatherings later this month.   Even though various small study groups continued meeting during the summer (Monday morning and evening, Tuesday evening, Friday morning),  September offers the invitation of Open Doors, Hearts and Minds to new participation and vitality.   Even the building hasn’t  been dormant receiving some TLC over the summer but its freshening continues.    And now there are potatoes to harvest . . . rows and rows of them! . . . for the food pantry and local need.   These represent plenty of opportunities of all sorts to be participating members of the Body of Christ in the world today. . . and His Body is needed in the world today.

So in the spirit of “Welcome Back!”  “Welcome Aboard!” or “Revive Us Again!,”  Sunday  September 7 has been designated Rally Day.   I have heard some conversation expressing unfamiliarity with the concept, so here is a brief primer.   In some places, it’s been a tradition, and like many traditions, its origins are not clear, but there is some literature from around the turn of the century, last century not this one!, noting the tendency of church people to drift away from church over the course of the summer (imagine that!).  So a mechanism was created to call and welcome people back in the Fall:  “Rally Day.”   It came to be a time and event with the purpose of rallying, calling-together and energizing people to be the church and bring it to life for its purpose and usefulness.    It may have initially focused on Sunday School renewal and class promotions even parading enrollees  (from the Cradle Roll to…well…you know… the opposite end of the life spectrum) before the front of the Sanctuary,  but over time it became more of a church-emphasis event.   It was a big deal in another era when Christian faith, fellowship and cooperative works for good, plus spiritual, moral and ethical nurture were actually valued for their contributions to character development and life to the full  [John 10:7-11].   Events even took on a carnival atmosphere with all sorts of pageantry and activities.

Admittedly, our rally doesn’t have that kind of energy infused,  but we’re new at this.   What may be more significant is the energy and attitude we bring,  an offering not counted in dollars and cents but in presence, openness and desired participation with one another,  together: members of the Body of Christ for His Glory, purpose and witness;   members together being built-up in His Body.    See You Sunday?    Bring a friend and your rally spirit.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM BEGINS SEPTEMBER10th

4:30 until 6:00 p.m.

Our After-School program will begin and we still need helpers. Please reach down in your heart and tell God you have time to give to these young children. The program will include Kindergarten through

5th grade with 6th grade and teen helpers.

We need helpers for crafts, exercise time, music, hall monitors, homework helpers, prayer warriors, and healthy snack providers. As we had time this year to prepare we have purchased a program where crafts, etc. are provided.  Pastor Dave will be the story teller.  Some relief will be needed at times.

You do not have to work every week.  You could choose to work weekly, monthly, quarterly or commit yourself to full time, once a week on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:45 pm.   The program will continue each Wednesday; excluding of school holidays, and will end April 16, 2015.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please help us provide a safe environment after school and an opportunity to share God’s Good News.  Please help: Contact Church Office  330-637-2571 or Directors; Debbie Miller 330-638-2546 or Shirley Divencenzo 330-637-3703.

May God bless you as you pray for the program and ask God: “Am I called to help?”

Also thanks to the men who will demolish the old shed on the grounds and clean around the shed next to driveway. Really will look great outside.
